Überblick : 1938: Im von Japan besetzten Korea ist die sportliche Rivalität zwischen den Marathonläufern Jun-shik und Tatsuo schon längst in offene Feindschaft umgeschlagen. Nach einem blutigen Zwischenfall wird Jun-shik von der japanischen Armee zwangsrekrutiert, um in der Mongolei an vorderster Front zu kämpfen. Weit weg von der Heimat kreuzen sich die Wege der Sportler wieder: Tatsuo übernimmt als ideologisch verblendeter Kapitän die Befehlsgewalt über das Bataillon. Beide landen nach einer vernichtenden Schlacht gegen die Sowjets in einem sibirischen Arbeitslager. Von dort wird sie ihr unbeugsamer Überlebenswille über Deutschland bis nach Frankreich bringen, wo sie für die Nazis am Strand der Normandie gegen die Alliierten kämpfen sollen...
